Post subject: Field & Forest Rimfire Match in E. TN **Feeler**

Greetings,
( I just wrote 2 descriptive paragraphs and it all vanished ^#$% !*:%)
I'm thinking of putting on a RIMFIRE tactical match. There will be a few stages on a typical square range and many stages out in the woods on RUGGED & STEEP terrain.
Targets will be from 50-250 yards, with a 300 yard line tie breaker available.
The woods walk portion will be much like a archery 3d walk through course.
Expect steep uphill/down hill inclined fire scenarios, obscure targets you must find in the forest, hostage scenarios where the bad guy is partially covered by the
no-shoot, pain in the neck shooting positions, wrong handed shooting etc.
50% of the income from match fees will be paid out in prizes.
This match will be GOOD EXERCISE. Be prepared to hike with all your stuff in the back country on steep terrain.
Match fee would be at least $35 depending on how elaborate the match is set up as well as the number of course of fire. But that means bigger prizes won as well.
Feel free to give me ideas & suggestions, but i need a serious show of hands as to who is interested.
Tentative date is 1st week of Feb.
This match is a primer to my Long range shooting class intensive I will be hosting just prior to spring thaw....

If Koyodiak"s in then I have to be in! Hope Lon don't go. We won't have a chance at beating him at that 250yd target! I still feel sorry for that poor ole lowly coffee can.

Hey PLEASE come kick my rear & shoot my tail off. I'm always looking for people to milk for every ounce of new info/skill I can get.
Tres
MY LR shooting class will cover basically everything I know on the math science & art of long range shooting. What different air density does to bullet path, uphill/down hill shooting, wind ,mildots, mirage range cards the whole bit.

I'm telling you guys, Shannon is the guy to look out for. . .
If I were King, I'd make it so that the LR Training Course took place before the competition course did.
Just sayin'. . .

I'm telling you, between Duncan and Lon, that coffee can looked like a spaghetti strainer by the time they got done with it.

ghACE will chime in but the top two scopes are Night Force and the lower rifle is wearing a Super Sniper.
So yall wanna have class b4 the match? I was thinking If I got you out there first and put you in situations you were unfamiliar with with and let you realize what skills (or equipment?) you did/did not have first hand- that come class time every body would be sitting at attention, paying close attention and taking notes. You'd know what particular skills you individually needed to learn, and before you ever signed up for the class understand the value of the course content.
Fire back! At me...

This is kind of like taking the Final Exam before having any class. But I've been accused of not having any class before. . .
I don't know about anyone else, but if I pay for instruction, I will be paying attention, particularly in an instruction that really interests me, such as this one.
Here's another way to look at it:
How much fun was it learning to swim by being thrown in the deep end?
It could take a lot of the fun out of it.
Wouldn't it be positive reinforcement if we could take things we learned in class and applied them in the field, rather than be discouraged because we were ill equipped, uninformed, and unprepared for the course, not to mention blowing $35 just to find that out? Not mentioning any names, but that could tend to put somebody in a bad mood.
I already know that the scope on my .22 is great for small critter hunting but sucks for long range as it is not a mil-dot but a duplex. That cheap Bushnell Sportview scope does not have enough adjustment to go beyond 200 yards. During the fun shoot I had to find a hold over reference to hit 140 and another one for 200, and that one was tough to repeat compared to what a different scope would allow. Don't think I'm willing to fork out serious $$ to put a mil-dot on my 10/22 just so I could be competitive in a one time competition course. I would save that $$ for a higher caliber rifle unless someone has one they want to let go for cheap.
Anyhow. . . that's just my take on it.
I'm more interested in the instruction course than the competition course anyway, so if it stays the way you planned it, I'm OK with it.

All good points!! And we can certainly have class first!
My thought was, and your changing it was to have the shoot first to get every one humbled.
I have taught a whole lot of people to shoot, and coached others on the firing line in competition. I have came to the place where I LOVE to teach women, and almost cringe to teach men. The reason is simply women show up an open vessel ready to learn. Men almost always show up with an air about them of "I am man, therefore I am genetically programmed with these skills- watch this!" and I have to get them past all that so they will begin to learn. Many times I have had to say to a male "student" "If you already knew why did you call me??" Or "If your happy with "your way" then why did you pay to "learn my way?""
It gets old...
But anyway- back to warm and fluffy...
I'll just put up a vote! I'm open & felxible. My heart in all this is to nudge boys & men, women & girls as well to go from shooters to riflemen. This nation needs riflemen.
“The tree of liberty~/~ It is framed by muskets and rooted to the ground with tomahawks."" -Jefferson
Can The men around me wring every molecule of use out of their musket?
I want the men around me to be able to say solidly YES.
I drove my wee little .223 AR to produce a perfect score @ 1000 yards. The average hunting rifle, already owned by the average hunter, can take deer 400-600 yards+++ no problem, but the man cant.
I wan't to encourage shooters to be riflemen! And it can & should be a bundle of fun along the way.
But then I'm out there & I know it. I have sold blood plasma to buy a pound of powder or have the $$ to enter a match.
