I've got a cheap one on my .22 S&W pistol, works awesome, no problems. Some are real expensive, I had an Aimpoint on my tactical rifle when I was working, yikes, $$$$$.
Remember: You must turn the dot off when not using it or the battery will run down and you'll have no dot. More spare batteries to carry, they are cheap insurance.
Your scope will be sighted for a particular distance, you'll have to use "Kentucky windage" for distances nearer and farther than what it is sighted in for, just like any other scope. It will help if you know the drop for the ammo you're going to be using.
Other than that, they are great. . .

I run an Aimpoint micro on my 12g but again, this may be overkill for hunting applications. I'm a buy once cry once kinda guy so dropping $450 on a red dot that could withstand the beating it was sure to get while I was working was a no brainer for me.
I believe vortex makes a red dot that seems to have good reports. When I looked 3 years ago, it was $150.
