Bedford county 1/4/12
south wind, 6:29 am, Black jack decoy, Foxpro Wildfire, DSG cottontail distress (19 min)
Ruger m77, .243, hornady 58gr super varmint
got this black male this morning at 6:29, he came running in to the black jack decoy while playing the DSG cottontail distress call. Watched him come across open pasture and cross the fence in a small drainage ditch I almost missed him completely due to him charging the decoy. was approx 70yd shot and he fell 10 feet from the decoy. I had a hard time getting setup for the shot because he was moving so fast and only stopped once for 1-2 sec. verified weight with bathroom scales, 41lbs. Hopefully it's going be a good year !

What a trophy! What a way to start off the year! Not only is it a black one but it weighs over 40 lbs. Congrats. Very Happy I would just like to put my crosshairs on one for once in my life. That would make one heck of a mount. Wink

Thanks fellas, i've been very fortunate to get both a male & female black in the last 2 months. Guess i need to go after the silver colored 1 i've been told about in the area. Or a nice bobcat that i know is around my favorite spot.

Congrats on the great looking coyote man! After deer season I can't wait to get back. It is more exciting than deer hunting even if you don't get one AND you don't have to sit in the same place in the cold for HOURS! Very Happy

I'd at least have to think about skinning it. Skinning one is pretty easy. Of the two I shot though, the first one stunk so bad from eating a dead rotted calf I couldn't do it. The second one was so mangy I couldn't do it.

Valentines gift to me. got this male yesterday while watching another come in down the wood line across the field heading to the decoy. The 1st dog suddenly stopped and laid down flat while looking up the tree line (not at the decoy). My heart started pounding outta my chest. All I could think was "I'm gettn a double" then I realized I was holding a bolt gun, lol. Anyway, here comes this pint sized male straight out of the woods in a trot heading towards the decoy. I barked at him at roughly 80-90yds, he stopped and I put 1 in his chest, DRT. I immediately swung over to the other dog on the far tree line. he was hauling butt back south. I sent the next round just over his back, the next 1 rolled it up like it hit a car head on. I was so excited I couldn't wait to go see my double. Well...the 2nd dog had vanished. no idea where. So, I head back to the first dog kinda bummed about not finding the 2nd dog. Oh well, It was still a great day.
