Thanks fellas, but before I can bask in the glory I have to tell you all that I shot a 3rd coyote that morning but lost it in a really, really thick cedar thicket and I managed to lose my 1 of, pre production Benchmade pocket knife in the process of trying to locate the dog. I was a gift from a close friend that had recently passed away and I had carried it everyday for the last 15 years. It really killed the buzz for the day.
If anyone has a metal detector I'd be glad to rent it for the weekend.

Bonz, your doing good! Congrats! I was hunting this afternoon, not seeing a thing, thinking I might just quit wasting my time! Now seeing someone having luck, I aint gonna quit.

Notes: don't think this 1 will count in the contest. LOL.I've been awakened the past 3 mornings to my dog barking out the bedroom window (We've had the windows up at night).Well, this morning I got to see what all the fuss was about. When my Border Collie stood up on the bed and started growling out the window I looked and there was ole momma coyote doing her thing about 50yds from my back property line. I grabbed the 223 and laid across the bed with my wifes pillow as a rest and took the shot through the screen on our window (wife's gonna be pissed) I'll probably blame it on her cat, lol. Anyway, I walked it off from the window, 158 paces. But my ears are still ringing and the bedroom smells like gunpowder. God it's great to live in the country again.
Anyone have a cover scent for gunpowder ?

Fabreeze, lots and lots of it!
Does this mean we don't get to hunt again until your wife is out of town and we have a standby screen handy?

jake, NO perfume. I'd rather explain the gunpowder
Jim, I told ya they were back here but I've educated them to all my calls. This 1 just slipped up and got to close and I happened to have the rifle out from cleaning it the night before.
She had 8 puppies in here. really wish I had let her walk but gotta keep all our pets safe

I don't know guys, between Teamroper and bonz shooting them from behind the house and the lack of posts on here, it's almost as if the coyotes are saying, "hey guys, if your not gonna come to us, then we'll come to you". LOL
I also sleep with the window open and heard them howling late last night. I'm waiting for mine to arrive any day now. lol

It's funny you said that. I could have sworn that I heard that coyote say something about he was getting tired of running from Dandridge to Florida and back. Lol. Guess he thought he was going to get an easy meal around my place. Wrong! Pow! He won't be making any more trips out your way anymore.
My prediction is that Broknbones is the one that will be the one racking in all the yotes this year. He is what I call a sleeper. If you don't watch him he is going to walk all over ALL of us. But Bonz, just keep them coming in. We love to see them. Just my two cents.
PS- I think Howler is going to take second (if he gets the time). Another sleeper. LOL

okay, really. I'm done till turkey season is over.
Date:3/30/12
Location:Bedford County
Time:6:30pm
Temp:60's
Wind:S
No. of Stands:2
Game Seen:1
Game Shot:1
Weapon Used:Rem 700 .223
Calls Used:Foxpro Wildfire, female howls, male howls
Notes:I wasn't gonna go but since it's the day before turkey season starts and my buddy had been hearing this male across the road from his farm, I figured why not.
I had done 1 stand solo and no takers so I drove over to my buddy's house for a quick stand before dark. Hoping he would get a shot at the yote he'd been hearing for the last several nights. We did 1 quick stand on the way in and then proceeded to the spot we hadn't hunted in a while. Well, we setup about 5 ft apart and waited for a few minutes before starting the call. We had spooked several turkeys walking in and wanted to give them time to clear out. I started the call with a few female howls and then switched to a male howl. While watching the field and tree line in font of us I noticed something outta the corner of my eye to the right (john was on my left). That lone male had slipped up behind us from down wind and was headed towards the decoy. I quietly told John look right and be still because the yote was looking straight at us. I wanted to let the dog continue on into the field so my buddy could get a shot but the dog spooked and started trotting straight away from us. I quickly spun right and was trying to get him into my scope before he disappeared, the whole time thinking I was gonna have to shoot him in the butt or the back of the head. I guess he couldn't get over the howling and stopped and turned broadside to me at 174yds. With my buddy whispering SHOOT HIM, I took the shot. He dropped in his tracks. We waited for 5-7 minutes continuing to call but no luck so we called it a day.
