Location: Roane County, Tn (my favorite honey-hole)
Time: PM
Temp: 60
Wind: Slight
No. Stands: 1
Coyotes Seen: 5
No. Killed: 5
Calls Used: Lightning Jack and Mojo Critter
Notes: Called for ten minutes and nothing showed, then all of a sudden I see two coyotes coming down from the top of a field directly in front of me. This was very surprising because they almost always come in from my left. I immediately got lined up on them but couldn’t get a shot off because they dropped down into a draw and out of sight.
The bad part was just as soon as I got lined up on that direction two more coyotes come out of the woods right where they usually do, to my left. As quick as I could, I swung around and shot coyote #1 right where he stood. The mate that was with him bolted out into the field and within a few feet of the Mojo Critter. After seeing the other coyotes coming up the draw from below he must have realized he was out of his home territory and ran towards me bouncing the whole way and constantly looking back over his shoulder, never knowing I was there. Bang! #2 drops at a mere 10 yds!
Ironically, when I shot at the very first coyote the two down in the draw thought the shot had come from behind them and bolted up onto the flat where I had just shot #1 and #2. As quick as I could, I shot the back one (like you are supposed to) and managed to hit the fourth one running up the slope directly away from me. Luckily for me he had slowed down a little after a few barks which made the shot a little easier.
Then with my back against a barbed-wire fence I felt it twinge like a fishing line and I instantly knew that “something” had just run through the fence. Sure enough, to my right was a big male loping at an angle away from me. He must have been standing at my direct right and had watched what had just happened and decided to get out of Dodge. He would have been fine except he made one mistake. He ran DIRECTLY away from me. Now I’m not a very good shot at running target to say the least but I was going to try. I let him get out there so that there wasn’t much vertical movement on his body and squeezed off the last shot. Boy that coyote went head over heels. Five shots, five coyotes. WHAT A HUNT!!
Then the worst possible thing happened. My alarm went off and I had to get up. Man, I hate when that happens. Moral of the story. Don’t go straight to bed after watching two coyote hunting videos. The funny part about the whole story is that this “episode” is a collection of about 7 hunts that I have had at that same stand location. Two exceptions. First, they didn’t all come in at the same time and second, I missed one of them. Have a great day. I am.
Sorry, no pics.

Here I am, a new guy in this game and I was totally in awe of your story! I was thinking to myself... "Is this what I have to look forward to?"
You got me for sure! Well done! I enjoyed the story anyway.
