Ok guys I need some help.. I just picked up a Rem. 700 BDL in .223..Nice for a used gun.I also mounted my new Bushnell Trophy XLT on it which needs sighting in..Here's my dilemma...

I absolutely love the camo painted guns I am seeing here. And I do understand the purpose of it and I need all the advantage I can get hunting these wiley dogs. I got several cans of camo paint today in all the colors they had except one. I am just having a hard time bringing myself to paint this gun or stock. And I can't wrap my head around painting a brand new scope. I have looked at a few replacement stocks for my gun and heck, I can buy another gun for those prices!! It is going to be my varmit gun only and my buddy has some tape on his and when I look at him in the stand it seems to glow in the dark!!!

Help please!!

i use the cheapest camo tape you can buy at Academy sports. it's some type of cloth tape that peels off easily without leaving glue residue and It works really well hiding my rifle/scope from me when I walk out to set up my caller & decoy. very easy to cut & apply and it offers somewhat of a guard against small nicks and dings.

I have a new synthetic stock that was for my 223 Rem 700 LVSF... I'd trade with ya! I can bring it Sat. if you want to take a look.

Really no need to paint a gun though IMO. Wink

Brad, bring it with ya if you have room..I can't wait to sight this gun in, really excited about it because it is so much lighter than my .243.. I don't what I'd trade ya but we can work something out I'm sure. Not to mention the new scope is so much nicer than the stock Simmons that came with my .243..

Bonz, I saw some tape like that at Walmart the other day on clearance..went today to the new one in Murfreesboro and they didn't have hardly anything left in the hunting section, not even ammo or guns. Really disappointing.

I have room.. it's a never been used replacement stock from Remington... had an issue with the original, then put a CDL stock on it... been wanting a BDL stock for my 22-250... (I was talking about trading your stock for mine) Love the BDL stocks!

Yea they are synthetic..the action doesn't look like the SPS versions I've seen in the stores, that's what threw me off..

I say spray it. There are alot of folks out there that are either completely against painting a gun and those who just cant get off the fence. When is comes down to it our rifles/pistols/shotguns are only tools. Granted, I have some and have seen some that I would personally not paint for a number of reasons. If your decide to paint, use Krylon or Rustoleums camo paint. Much more cost efficient over the alternatives Duracoat, Cerekote etc. Both Krylon and Rustoleum are easy to remove if after you're done, you are overwhelmed with painters remorse. Just dont go crazy with the coats until you decide thats what you want. This makes for much easier removal. At times I find myself wondering why I carry a stainless/shiney finish rifle in the field while sporting my leafy suit.... YMMV.

Most of my rifles are painted with Krylon camo paint. I regard my rifles as tools and when I get an opportunity to hunt, I don't want to risk spooking a yote because I get a flash of sunlight off my rifle (or any other gear).

If your hunting rifle is a fancy grade and you can't bring yourself to shooting paint on it, then Camoform tape is a good option. It should be available locally or you can mail order from us and it will be shipped from Athens, AL.

Sometimes I will buy a hunk of burlap and spray paint it in a camo pattern. Then I cut it into 3" by 36" strips and toss it in the washer. The washing blends the camo, kills the paint smell and fringes the edges. I wrap my rifle with that and secure it with rubber bands. Cheap and effective. When I'm in my Ghillie suit with my rifle, I am just about invisible.

I picked up some camo cloth tape on the way to the meeting saturday..started putting in on and it's really not going on like I want..still have the paint so if Yote would just donate me that extra stock he has and doesn't like I would paint one of them to see...

I have yet to see a camo tape job that looked decent, I'm one of those that dont see my rifles as tools and they are not treated as such. I would have a really tough time painting one of my 2 or 3 thousand dollar AR's (Or more)
but young son (Colt) is just the oppsite! He has no problem slinging Krylon all over a 2grand Nightforce scope and a $800 stock! There are other options that arent permenant.
I have made ghillie suits for my rifles outta burlap and camo material that worked really well and take it off after the hunt.

I dont remember who makes it but I have a really nice camo sleeve that fits over a Rem. 700 that I dont use anymore and you are welcome to it if ya want it!

WWW, I'd like to see that cover. I looked at a few at basspro and they were high and didnt cover much of the rifle at all..blew me away that Colt was brave enough to do that, I would have puked. Windy and rainy here today so it looks like I'll be working the crimps out of primer pockets today instead of shoot new hand loads...

I had camo done on my AR. Dura coat is the only way to go. Regular paint will flake and peel off. To me that looks bad after a little while. If you don't mind spray it. Bore cleaner is also ruff on regular paint.

I don't have camo on any of my guns..

So am I at a real disadvantage then? I can't remember WWW ever carrying a gun when we've gone that was camo either??? (we've killed 1 or 2 lol) Even that day he "saved my life" lol (one was coming in from behind me) He nailed it with his Grendal.. I think the blued guns reflect more light than the stainless for what it's worth.. (especially if you swing 'em around alot) .. heck if I see them 1st they only have the chance of seeing a quarter sized shine anyway! ... Quick question here.. are you sitting in the sun light or the shade of a tree/bush? I honestly think a camo gun is more for your confidence.

Ill have you painting your calls before too long Brad....you just dont know it yet. lol Brad is correct though, its doesnt matter if its stainless or pink in most cases.
