looking for a gunsmith that can thread rifle barrels in house. I've called most shops around my area (Franklin) with no luck. They all want my rifle for 3-4 weeks and will send it out to be threaded. I'm not giving up my rifle for a month & I like to be able to talk to the person doing the work.
I want to find the guy/place they are subletting out to.

Any of you folks know a competent gunsmith in the Mid Tn area that does exceptional work for a fair price in house ?
Thanks

WWW ?

Sure do. Try talking to Miles at Sure Match in Savannah, TN. (731) 926-2952

Barry Mabry is the owner. His shop is a combination of a gun shop and autobody paint and supply business.

I have seen Miles work and he does a great job. The problem with this is that he gets swamped with work. Call and ask for Miles and tell him I (Randy) recommended them to you.

Miles will cut and thread your barrel right there in the back in the lathe room on the premisis. It has been a few weeks since I have been over there but last time I checked it cost $175. Depending upon the rifle, Miles will only need to remove the rife from the stock. (any scope or aiming system he will have to remove as well). Sometimes Miles is backed up for weeks and other times he can take a gun right away. You will have to call and work that out with him.

Are you threading the barrel for a suppressor or muzzle brake? The reason I ask is that if it is for a suppressor, he may need to see it to ensure the proper machining for a good fit. He has is own muzzle brakes but if you prefer your own muzzle brake, he may need to see it as well so he can properly time the muzzle brake after threading the barrel.

Might be a bit of a drive from Franklin though.

I thought it was a very fair price considering that Miles provides the stainless steel muzzle brake, cuts the barrel down, and then cuts the threads. Not to mention the disassembly and reassembly of the rifle.

I did call & talk to Tom, I was told $90-100 and 3-4 weeks cause they had to send it off. Dunno why ?
But thanks for the suggestion.
I have found a guy that was referred to me by Bedford SWAT team. He does all their tactical weapons.
Thanks again everyone !

If you are wanting a muzzle brake for the rifle in the picture you posted above, have you considered a clamp on style muzzle brake like this?

I installed this muzzle brake myself. I just had to mic two barrel diameter measurements to obtain the barrel taper and muzzle crown diameter. It cost me $115 delivered. Once you send Steve the measurements, he usually takes about a week to get the brake to your mailbox.

Quotes to Live By
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.
