just had to show off my new (to me) coyote rifle. it's a DPMS AP4, 16"
I just got the scope mounted up and I'm looking forward to getting it sighted in as soon as possible. I welcome any and all suggestions about these rifles. I haven't shot an AR in over 20 yrs. First on my list will be a bipod setup but i'm gonna have to change the gas block (think it's called) first.

Does it have an aluminum handguard? I cant tell in the pic. If so you can order a sling stud from midway. You mark and drill the handguard and it just goes through with a nut on the back. Just wandering. It's cheaper than a gas block.

i appears to be an aluminum ring around the front of the fore grip. is that where your talking about mounting the stud for a sling/bipod ? if so, thanks for the tip !

No. Some of the AR rifles have a free floating handguard. They mount to the receiver but they don't touch anywhere else. Thats the kind I was talking about. They are like mounting a sling stud to a 2 inch pipe.

Changing out a gas block can be a pain in the butt.
If the handguard is aluminum (not plastic) you can probably still install a sling stud like dunkintn suggested even if it isn't a freefloater. Just remember that it would effect POI if it isn't a free floater.
Another option is if there is enough material on the bottom of the gas block it may be possible to drill and tap it for a swivel stud.
A picture of the gas block/front of the handguard would help us identify it.

It appears to have a low profile gas block so that would lead me to believe it is a F/F handgaurd. I wouldnt drill my gas block but there are several different options as mentioned, Brownells has several different sling studs avalible for AR's.
Sweet Rifle btw!

I should have let you look at it today at the meeting , It was in the truck. I'm gonna have some things changed on it this week, i'll ask my armorer what he suggest that's cost effective.

I do run Bi-pods on all my rifles but to be honest they are just kick stands for when I set my rifle down, I cant remember the last time I shot off a pod other than the bench or out west where they are actually handy. I would concentrate on a good set of sticks or a mono pod...You will get alot more use out of em.
Course thats just my opinion:-)

I use the Primos trigger stick, short bipod version. Sometimes i just use as a mono-pod. They work well, are quiet, not heavy, versatile and fast to adjust. I start out with them low, seems easier to adjust up than down when needed quickly. Yes it is something else to carry but worth it. I have been studying on mounting on my rifle like a bi-pod. The craddle is removable and all I need is some sort of a light weight hinged base for it. It can be used as a camera mount when the craddle is removed. Also if anyone has/gets a trigger stick, keep in mind the handle is plastic and in really cold weather can break. I know because I set mine down on the ground, proceeded to set down and didn't notice I had my weight bearing hand on it. After get setup, noticed the handle was broke and cracked in several places. Sad sight! Later got home, took it all apart, and was going to atempt to glue it up, but thought heck maybe Primos would sell me a new handle, called 'em and they said send it all back (I just put parts in a bag and sent it) and they replaced with complete new one. Good customer service. Sorry for the long post!

I have a trigger stick bipod from Primos also and its really versatile but i do like the swivel bipod thats on my 17. I can set the rifle up and lean it against my shoulder ready to fire without holding it at all. The trigger stick if mounted to the rifle would prob do the same.
Also, i put about 150rounds through the AR today trying to sight it In without much luck. The trigger sux, im used to the really light triggers in my bolt guns. On the fence about this being my new yote gun....

i'm sure they are sweet but I don't wanna spend that kinda money on this rifle. I've had Timney triggers in previous bolt rifles and was very happy.
I'll probably just sell the AR and get another savage in 204
wanna buy a AR ?

Typical AR trigger! Tons of options out there though.
I wouldnt blame it on the trigger just yet, Even with the worst trigger you should be able to get it sighted in too accecptable accuracy for Yote huntin.
Could be ammo,Scope, mount, could be a number of things?
What AR did ya buy? New,Used? Barrel twist?

I thought ammo & switched to dept issue, still erratic. Its a lightly used DPMS AP4 16" 1-9 twist. Mounts are leupold, nikon buckmaster scope.
