I was blessed enough to receive my bonus for this quarter and that means the boss is going to let me purchase a new turkey/coyote shotgun. My head is spinning because of all the choices. I have been told to stick with Remington because of all of the accessories that you can buy but I am a fan of Mossberg. Is the 870 the best bet or should I go for the 835 Mossberg? Thanks for your help guys and I appreciate the help with converting the ar to a coyote killing machine.

A lot of folks start out with pump shotguns, but I really like the semi-automatics. Perhaps you can find a used Remington somewhere? Jake found one for a fantastic price at a local pawn shop. I'm pretty sure that Dunkintn also is using a semi-auto. The recoil for one thing is much less than a pump. Those Hevishot shells knock the heck out of your shoulder in a pumper.

I'm using a Beretta Silver Mallard with a Carlson's Dead Coyote choke mounted on it. I'm really pondering getting a red dot sight of some sort to put on it, but I'll also have to find a way to mount it since it isn't drilled and tapped for a scope. I use the gun for everything since I have four chokes for it. You can find them sometimes on Gunsamerica for around $450.

I use a Mossberg 535. I prefer autos over pumps and I'm not a real big Mossberg fan but for $300 dollars at Dicks I figured it wasn't a bad deal. Camo, shoots 3 1/2 inch shells, red dot sight and light weight. As noted above it will punish your shoulder when pattering.

I Have both auto's and pumps but tend to lean towards the pumps. I have also had the 835 and it was a Turkey stomper as well as coyotes with a .650 Hastings choke. That said I like my 870 Super Mag better!
I dont like the Ported barrels on the Mossburgs...Too loud!

6 of one half ..wel you know.. I personally like the feel of the 870s best although most mossbergs will shoot with anything pattern wise and will also kill on both ends. If your a fan of the mossbergs dont overlook the 935 . I had one for almost a year and really liked it !! I have also had a benelli nova pump and a beretta 390 and currently a beretta xtrema and going to pick up a benelli supernova with pistol grip and some nice chokes in a couple of days.It will be my dedicated turkey/dog setup , im thinking eotech?? Smile

I had a Mossberg but just sold it and bought. A Remington 11-87. I LIKE that shotgun! A lot less recoil, great sights are stock, lightweight, and has a sci-fi looking stock that suits me just fine. Smile

I would go with the Remington 870 Super Magnum Express. Very good shotgun.

Both are great guns. The reason I went with the auto was because I had 4 coyotes come in under 3 mins from three different directions. Under those circumstances I have a tendency to be all thumbs. I had a pump with me at the time. Got 2 of the 4 and then bought a Rem. 11-87 the next day at a pawn shop. Won't go back to a pump. Wink

So what's he do? Sells his pump shotty to his hunting partner or is that hunting decoy? LOL!

The Walmart on Rutherford blvd has one that's sharp looking. I looked at it tonight while we were in there. $376 I think was the price tag on it but is just the express model, not the magnum..

Start calling the pawn shops. I called almost 20 different shops but found exactly what I was looking for in the first day.

I now have the shotgun which is a benelli Supernova 12 gauge. Thanks for your help on that! My next purchase is going to be a sight to mount that will aid me in shooting both turkeys and yotes at close range. Any suggestions?

I've got a Mossburg BPS 10 gauge pump shotgun if anyone is interested in it. Bought it for coyote hunting in the brush but only shot it one time. Just wasn't my thing really.
